A decade ago, you would be waiting for your taxi to arrive while repetitively staring at your watch, calling the driver only to find that he is ‘just around the corner for the last fifteen minutes! Or even the fact that you were robbed in broad daylight by paying the auto driver an outrageous fare.

Similarly, goods transport service companies too faced numerous difficulties without the support of technology. The entire tempo transport service sector, on the whole, has faced problems of all kinds. Processes weren’t carried out in a systematic manner, work was carried out haphazardly, issues with security were a concern and functioning was a rollercoaster ride.

As a result of this shortcoming, there was a change in the scenario of goods transport service companies – the introduction of information technology.

If this change hadn’t taken place, the following problems would have continued.

  • **Loopholes across the fleet, freight, and parcel **– The whole logistics system had loopholes without technology. Before advanced technology was introduced, almost all delivery models of goods transport service companies suffered stagnancy both outside and within the organization. Within the supply chain, methods such as truckload and less-than-truckload were in distress. Speed was a critical factor that wasn’t accomplished by goods transport service companies until the arrival of technology.
  • Lack of communication – Within departments, there was a lack of communication and due to this, the time lag between systems increased. Owing to inadequacy in interdepartmental communication and transparency, it became impossible for goods transport service companies to optimize the entire system. As a result of this disparity, customer service deteriorated. Thus, eventually hampering the business.
  • Tracking delivery – Technological tools help track the supply and delivery of goods. Back then, without technology, this was unimaginable. The lack of tracking facilities also caused a delay in the entire process. At times, goods on a tempo service for shifting got lost at some point in the transportation cycle which was problematic for both the client and the company. Forget tracking your goods at every step, it was impossible to get through the complete transport service.

  • Management of inbound transportation – The presence of a proper system helps assimilate the entire process without which it’s a struggle to manage inbound transportation. Previously, this system was lacking due to which, the delivery performance was lowering, costs were getting higher and the purchase order visibility of consignments was affected. Furthermore, as an upshot, warehouses accumulated excess stock which leads to chances of damage.
  • Increasing profit – Profits of goods transport service companies were affected due to the slow-paced process. The slow process led to delayed payments which led to less liquid money for daily activities.

In the recent past, a much-needed change that has transformed the entire goods transport service sector is technology. Thanks to information technology, you are given the opportunity to transport goods accurately, enabled tracking in real-time, and even brought certainty in estimating fares.
